板金工場の技術を活かしたストレージ「Parcel」の企画・開発
Iron storage "Parcel"
“Parcel”は、板金加工工場のヒラミヤと共に開発した鉄製のストレージです。
切断した１枚の鉄板を、溶接やネジ止め等を一切行わず、
小包や折り紙のように折り込むことで、容れ物としての形状を留めています。
これは、板金加工のひとつである「曲げ加工」を応用することで実現しました。
何度も折り込むつくりは、職人あってこそのもので、
機械には真似のできない微妙な調整が不可欠です。
従来では溶接やネジ止めに割いていたコストやリソースを、
まだ誰もやったことのないユニークなプロセスへと置き換え、付加価値へと転じました。
"Parcel" is an iron storage jointly developed
with the Japanese metal processing factory "Hiramiya".
A single sheet of iron was cut and bent like a parcel or folding paper
without using welding or screws to create a shape like a container.
It was achieved by applying a "bending plate process,"
which is one of the sheet metal processing techniques.
Only craftsmen can build it bending the plate many times,
and subtle adjustments that machines cannot copy are essential.
In other words, Parcel replaces conventional costs and resources like
welding and screws with a unique process that no one tried before.
It is a new product that has a newly added value.
板金加工技術を“拡げる”
Extend the sheet metal processing technology
板金加工工場のヒラミヤでは、店舗内装から鉄道部品まで多種多様な板金加工を行っています。
そのほとんどが外部の企業からの依頼を受けて製造する「OEM」であることから、
なかなかその技術力を一般に発信する機会がありませんでした。
そこで、自社製品を通して、認知向上を目指すことに。
ヒラミヤの技術を最大限活かしつつ、鉄製にも関わらず紙のような軽やかさと
そのギャップへの驚きに満ちた「Parcel」「H Stool」を開発。
日本の素材・技術を世界に伝えるプラットフォーム「MATERIAL IN TIME」への参画を皮切りに、
香港と日本の数拠点にて展示・販売を実施。
世界20ヵ国から1000件を超える応募があったDFAアジアデザイン賞2020の
プロダクト・インダストリアルデザイン部門で「Parcel」がメリットアワードに選出されるなど、
当初の目的であったヒラミヤの技術を広く知ってもらえる機会を創出する結果に繋がりました。
Hiramiya, a metal processing factory, crafts various sheet metal products,
from interior decorations for storefronts to railway parts.
Since they mostly produce OEM products ordered by other companies,
they lacked the opportunity to promote their technical expertise to the general public.
So, they decided to create their own products to boost brand recognition.
They developed "Parcel" and "H Stool," which showcase the full potential of Hiramiya's skills.
People are surprised by how lightweight and flexible iron products can be.
Since participating in the "MATERIAL IN TIME" platform,
which aims to convey Japan's prowess in crafts and technology,
they have conducted exhibitions and sales in several locations in Hong Kong and Japan.
As a result, "Parcel" was awarded the Merit award
in Product & Industrial design department of DFA Design for Asia Awards,
giving them the opportunity to show the world Hiramiya's craftsmanship,
which was their initial goal.
